The weekend's results - plus key stats for tonight's game

Mon 24th August 2009

Tottenham and Chelsea's good start continued at the weekend with
both clubs winning away in local derbies to preserve their 100%
records after 3 games of the new season.

Tottenham won 2-1 away at Harry Redknapp's old club West Ham while
Chelsea cruised to a 2-0 win at Fulham.

It's been a good start all round for the London clubs with Arsenal
winning again at the weekend. The Gunner's beat early season
strugglers Portsmouth 4-1 at the Emirates. Arsene Wenger's men have
now won both of their opening games scoring 10 goals in the process.

There's one more Premier League game to be played tonight at Anfield
when Liverpool face Aston Villa, I'll be taking a closer look at
that game later...

The stats produced two out of three winner's midweek - let's see how
they got on this weekend...

Wigan 0 Manchester United 5

Coming into this game both clubs had been involved in low scoring
games at the start of the season and this game looked like it was
going the same way when it was 0-0 at half time.

But as with come to expect from Sir Alex's men they bounced back
from their defeat to Burnley by producing an impressive 2nd half
performance against Wigan scoring 5 goals. Rooney scored his 100th
and 101st goals in a United shirt. While Fergie will also be pleased
that Berbatov and Owen scored their first goals of the season - Nani
added the 5th.

West Ham 1 Tottenham 2

Tottenham made it 3 out of 3 so far this season at Upton Park. Both
teams came into this game with strong First Goal trends from last
season - with the average First Goal time coming After 27th Minute.
That proved to be the case in yesterday's game as well - with
Carlton Cole opening the scoring in the 49 minute.

Also both teams had 'high' corner stats from last season - with
games at Upton Park producing an average 12.1 Corners per game.
Yesterday's Corner Total finished at 12 just creeping 'Over' the
bookies 11.5 marker.

Fulham 0 Chelsea 2

A comfortable away win for Chelsea with goals in either half by
Drogba and Anelka. These two clubs had some of the best 'low'
Booking Points/ Cards stats last season and even though this game
was a local derby those stats proved reliable.

Referee Andre Marriner kept his cards in his pockets yesterday,
showing No Cards at all in the match. Low Booking Points/ Cards bets
on Fulham and Chelsea could be money makers for us all season if the
opposition suit.

Arsenal 4 Portsmouth 1

Arsenal were in free scoring form again on Saturday beating Paul
Hart's struggling Portsmouth side 4-1.

Last season Arsenal produced some impressive Corner winning stats at
home. Arsenal once again won the Most Corners at home on Saturday
but with the bookies setting their less than generous '-5 Corner
Handicap'
on the home side they didn't quite clear it - winning 8
Corners
compared to Portsmouth's 4.

Elsewhere...

Man City made it 2 out 2 from their opening games beating new boys
Wolves 1-0. Emmanuel Adebayor's 17th minute strike meant City were
winning at Half Time and Full Time on Saturday.

Birmingham against Stoke looked to be a low scoring affair according
to both teams' stats and it proved to be the case, with the game
ending goalless.

Now let's take a look at tonight's game at Anfield...

Liverpool v Aston Villa
Live on ESPN at 8pm
Ref: M. Atkinson

Liverpool beat Stoke 4-0 at home in their last outing having lost to
Tottenham on the opening weekend. While Villa started the season
with a disappointing 2-0 defeat at home to Wigan.

Cards/ Booking Points

Last season 63.2% of Liverpool's home and Aston Villa's away games
went Under 3.5 Cards/ 35 Booking Points.

Both teams had excellent disciplinary records as well. Liverpool
were the 2nd best behaved team behind Fulham while Martin O'Neill's
men were 4th.

Bet365 are offering 3/4 that tonight's game goes 'Under 3.5 Cards'.

Corners

Liverpool boasted some impressive Corner winning abilities at
Anfield last term...

The reds' averaged 5.8 Corners more than their opponents per home
game. They've started this season in similar fashion beating Stoke
on the corner count in their first home game of the season 11-5.

Skybet have given Liverpool a '-3 Corner Handicap' tonight against
Villa a target they're very capable of achieving especially if the
home side fail to score early on.
