Latest Results - and Liverpool v Birmingham tonight

Monday 9th November 2009.

In your FBD update today…

  • Chelsea stretch their lead…
  • Results in our featured matches…
  • A bet for tonight’s match…

The last round of matches before the international break saw Chelsea
extend their lead at the top. Closest rivals Manchester United dropped
a place, as Arsenal, Tottenham and Aston Villa all won.

Man City and Burnley shared the points, as did Wigan and Fulham.
Welcome wins for Everton, Blackburn and Hull saw them all progress in
the table – Hull jumping out of the bottom 3 for the first time this
season.

Last week’s results

A disappointing week on the betting front. A couple of winners, a
couple of near misses and 2 of the season’s most outstanding trends
backfiring.

Let’s start with one of those at Villa Park…

Aston Villa 5 Bolton 1

Total Corners: 9
Breakdown: 8:1

FBD said:

  • Over 12 Corners @ 5/4 – LOST

Both teams took an Over 12 average into this match – posting totals of
15, 17 and 20 in recent weeks. And it looked so good early on with 7
Corners racked up by half time (all Villa, incidentally). But Bolton
capitulated and with the contest over mid-way through the second half
the total stalled at just 9.

Wolves 1 Arsenal 4

FBD said:

  • Arsenal (-1) Handicap to beat Wolves @ 11/10 – WON

Arsenal are scoring for fun at the moment and this bet never looked in
danger after 2 own goals put them 2-0 up in 35 minutes. Fabregas and
Arshavin doubled the lead before Wolves managed one in the right end
for a late consolation.

Tottenham 2 Sunderland 0

FBD said:

  • Over 2.5 Goals @ 7/10 – LOST

One of the outstanding stats of the season failed us here. 10 of
Tottenham’s 11 matches (that’s 91%) had gone Over 2.5 Goals before
this match, and both teams boasted an average of over 3 total goals
per game (3.4 v 3.3). Tottenham did their bit, but Sunderland had no
luck in front of goal – Reid hit a post, top scorer Bent missed a
penalty
– so nothing to show here. BUT – Tottenham’s Over 2.5 trend
remains one to follow.

Hull 2 Stoke 1

FBD said:

  • Time of 1st Goal After 30th Minute (including 0-0 draw) @ 5/6 – LOST

  • (Also available: Time of 1st Goal After 28th Minute @ Evens – WON)

Another compelling set of stats – both teams had 80% records on 0-0
Half Time
scores going into this one, with average 1st Goal Times of
52 and 48 minutes respectively. Matthew Etherington’s 29th minute
strike was cruel luck for those that took the ‘After 30th min
including the 0-0’ option (Blue Square), but a result for those who
backed the straight ‘After 28th min’ (Bet365).

Chelsea 1 Manchester United 0

Booking Points = Chelsea 30 Man United 30

FBD said:

  • Man United to get the Most Booking Points @ 5/6 – LOST

Chelsea had averaged less than half a booking per match going into
this match, while Man United were (and still are) averaging 3 per
match on the road. But Chelsea matched United’s total here – including
a bizarre one for Drogba after he took a chest-high kick in the ribs
by Jonny Evans (Didier’s leg-shaking histrionics didn’t do him or us
any favours).

So all in all, a poor return for the week – despite some solid looking
stats. But we have an opportunity to improve our fortunes in tonight’s
match between Liverpool and Birmingham…

Liverpool v Birmingham

TONIGHT, 8pm kick off
Live on ESPN
Referee: P. Walton

                Pos   Pld   W     D     L     Pts
Liverpool    7th   11    6     0     5     18
Birmingham 15th  11    3     2     6     11

A couple of tempting bets here. Firstly in Corners

Liverpool have had consistently strong Corner figures for a couple of
seasons now. Currently they are winning an average of 9.2 per match,
with opponents forcing just 3.4. This gives them an average of +5.8
Corners
more than their opponents at home.

Birmingham’s away figures dovetail neatly. They have won an average of
4 per match, conceding 9. This means that on their travels, they have
won an average of 5 Corners less than their opponents.

Most bookies are offering Liverpool (-5) in the Corner Handicap
markets – asking Liverpool to get at least 6 Corners more than
Birmingham.

This looks achievable, but the (-3.5) on offer at William Hill provides more cover.

  • Liverpool have covered a -3.5 Corner Handicap in 4 out of their
    last 5
    home matches

  • Birmingham have conceded at least 3.5 Corners more than their
hosts in 4 out of their last 5 away game
    s

FBD says:

  • Liverpool '-3.5 Corner Handicap' @ 4/6 with William Hill

That bet wins if Liverpool get at least 4 corners more than Birmingham.

Also available, Liverpool (-5) Corner Handicap @ 5/4 with Boylesports
and Paddy Power.

There are also some interesting stats in the Bookings

Liverpool’s home matches are averaging 44 Booking Points – about 4 and
a half Yellow Cards. Birmingham’s away matches average 28 – a bit less
than 3 Yellows. But interestingly, Birmingham are getting shown a
higher rate of Cards…

  • Birmingham’s average Booking Points For – 20; average Booking
    Points Against – 8

  • Liverpool’s average Booking Points For – 17; average Booking
    Points Against – 27

This clearly shows Birmingham average 1 Yellow Card more than
opponents in away matches, and Liverpool average 1 Yellow Card less
than their visitors.

Bookies will offer you around 1/2 for Birmingham to get More Bookings,
but also note that Birmingham have a 100% record (5 out of 5) of
getting the First Card in away games. Liverpool are yet to get the First Card at home.

FBD says:

  • Birmingham to get the 'First Card' @ 8/15 with Blue Square and 888 Sport
