Chelsea top of the league - and the scorers charts
Monday 18th January 2010
In Football Betting data today:
- Chelsea top the scorer charts...
- Last week's results - Villa and West Ham go corner crazy...
- Coming up this week - 2 more games on Wednesday...
The Premier League returned at the weekend - and not for the first
time this season, there were a few surprise results...
Chelsea top the scorer charts
After 2 wins from their last 2 league games, Liverpool drew 1-1 at
Stoke on Saturday. Elsewhere Wigan won 2-0 away at Wolves, Aston
Villa failed to score for the 3rd game in a row (0-0 with West Ham)
and Everton's 2-0 win put an end to new Man City boss Roberto
Mancini's unbeaten record.
Okay so league leaders Chelsea were odds-on for a home win over
Sunderland - but where did that 7-2 score-line come from? Most
bookies don't even offer bets on that Correct Score!
That result makes Chelsea the Premier League's top home scorers with
34 Goals For from 11 games at Stamford Bridge so far. At the start
of the season bookies were offering 9/2 for any team to score 50+
goals at home - and the Blues are now on course to beat that.
-
Stamford Bridge has now seen more goals than any other Premier
League ground this season - 42 Total Goals. The Bridge was a 16/1-
shot in the bookies' Specials markets for 'Ground with the most
goals' in 2009/10
-
Chelsea have scored at least 2 goals in 9 of their last 10
home games in all competitions
-
Darren Bent scored a consolation goal for Sunderland in that
7-2 defeat - but it was significant for us - Bent now has 14 Premier
League goals and is well clear of the rest of the pack in the 'Top
Scorer Handicap' chart. At the start of the season we recommended
a bet on Bent with a +11 goals head start at 22/1 each way

Last week's results - Villa and West Ham go corner crazy
It wasn't a great week for our recommended bets, with a couple of
'stats' results going against us and the Portsmouth v Birmingham
game being called off. However there was some good news, at Villa
Park...
Aston Villa 0 West Ham 0
Total Corners = 20.

- Over 11.5 Corners @ 4/6 - WON
Both teams now have 73% records for Over 10.5 Corners games. This
fixture is turning in to a regular 'high corners' one - this was the
3rd Villa-West Ham game in a row to have at least 20 corners. All
'Over' options on the Total Corners paid out a winner.
Bolton 0 Arsenal 2
Corners = Bolton 2 Arsenal 4
FBD said:
Near misses on both highlighted bets here - 1 goal and 1 corner kick
away from 2 winners. Both teams had plenty of chances to score, but
the ball only ended up in the back of the net twice. There were 31
Shots in this game and 2 Goals - compare that to the Chelsea-
Sunderland game on Saturday where there were 35 Shots and a whopping
7 Goals.
Arsenal won the Most Corners again - the 9th time in 11 away games -
but only won 2 corners more than Bolton, 1 away from beating the -2
Corner Handicap.
Arsenal play Bolton again on Wednesday night.
Tottenham 0 Hull 0
First Card = N.Barmby, 29 mins (Hull).
Booking Points = Tottenham 40 pts Hull 20 pts.
Cards = Tottenham 4 yellows, Hull 2 yellows.
FBD said:
Hull kept up their above-average First Card record, with veteran
Nicky Barmby going first in the Referee's book. A Hull player has
now received the First Card in 9 out of 11 away games (81%).
However the home team - perhaps frustrated that they couldn't find a
way past Hull's Man-of-the-Match goalkeeper Boaz Myhill - went on to
get the Most Booking Points, with 4 yellow cards to Hull's 2. That's
only the 5th time in 21 games this season that Tottenham have picked
up the Most Booking Points.
Portsmouth v Birmingham - Match Postponed
FBD said:
This game was called off on Saturday morning due to a waterlogged
pitch at Fratton Park. All bets are void with stakes returned.
Blackburn 2 Fulham 0
Corners = Blackburn 3 Fulham 6
FBD said:
- Asian Handicap Corners - Blackburn -2 @ 44/45 - LOST
The form book was turned on its head here. Blackburn won for the
first time in 10 games - and Fulham won the Most Corners for only
the 2nd time in 11 away games.
Coming up this week - 2 more games on Wednesday...
With a whole round of Premier League games called off due to the
snow a week ago, the fixture list is looking pretty busy over the
next couple of months with games to catch up on, as well as Carling
Cup, FA Cup and European games to fit in...
- That means there will be plenty of opportunities for us to
cash-in on the stats - so look out for bonus midweek emails from
me as well as our usual Friday match previews
This weekend the FA Cup takes centre stage but there are 2 Premier
League games to come on Wednesday night and another one on Saturday.
| Arsenal v Bolton |
Wednesday 7.45pm |
| Liverpool v Tottenham |
Wednesday 8pm live on Sky Sports 1 |
| Man Utd v Hull |
Saturday 3pm |
I'll write to you again on Wednesday with a look at that night's
games...
Best wishes,
Matt Nesbitt
