Now for a look at the pick of the opening weekend games...

Standout stats for the 3 live games

Here's the TV schedule for the opening weekend. The live games will
be prime hunting ground for us this season as the bookies offer the
biggest variety of bets for these games.

Tottenham v Manchester City - Saturday 12.45pm Sky Sports 3
Chelsea v West Brom - Saturday 5.30pm ESPN

Liverpool v Arsenal - Sunday 4pm Sky Sports 1

Manchester United v Newcastle United - Monday 8pm Sky Sports 1

I'll be looking at Man Utd v Newcastle in your Monday email.

Note: Early-season games can be a minefield - especially for picking
match results. I won't be giving you any 'recommended bets' until
there's some fresh form in the book - but these are the markets to
look out for if you are thinking of having a bet this weekend...

Tottenham v Manchester City
Ref: A. Marriner

  • Tottenham scored the First Goal in 79% (15/19) of their home
    games last season

Chelsea v West Brom
Ref: M. Clattenburg

  • Chelsea won 89% (17/19) of their home games last season
  • 15 of Chelsea's 19 home games went Over 2.5 Goals - 79%

Liverpool v Arsenal
Ref: M. Atkinson

  • Liverpool scored the First Goal in 84% (16/19) of their home
    games last season
  • Liverpool's opponents received the First Card in 84% (16/19)
    of their home games

It's David v Goliath at Stamford Bridge...

The Chelsea stats jump off the page there... the best home win
record from last season coupled with a high 79% strike rate for Over
2.5 Goals games - with most of those goals scored by Chelsea.

The reigning Premier League champions are up against newly-promoted
West Brom on Saturday evening, and that looks like a nightmare
opening fixture for the new boys. Last time West Brom were in the
Premier League in 2008/9, Chelsea beat them 2-0 at home and 3-0
away. And last season Chelsea scored more goals than any other team
in the Premier League.

  • 12 of the 17 home games that Chelsea won last season were won
by more than 1 goal, and 11 of them were won To Nil...

  • The bookies make both those options odds-on this weekend. The
    Chelsea -1 Handicap Result a best-price 8/13 (1.62) and Chesea To
    Win To Nil
    is 5/6 (1.83) - both with Coral.

Chelsea Goals specials...

Victor Chandler are offering a range of 'Premier League August
Specials' bets, including 'Chelsea's Goals in August.' Here are the
odds:

Chelsea Goals in August Odds
Under 6                 7/4
6-8                     23/20
Over 8                  5/2

Chelsea's first three games are at home to West Brom, away to Wigan
and at home to Stoke. If Chelsea were to keep up their phenomenal
scoring record from last season then the 'Over 8' option is within
their grasp...

Last season Chelsea scored a total of 9 goals in their two games
against Wigan (including an 8-0 win), and 9 goals from two wins over
Stoke (including a 7-0 win).

here:www.VCBet.com

Aston Villa v West Ham - history repeating...

I can't look at this weekend's fixtures without mentioning the Aston
Villa v West Ham
game. Recent meetings between these sides have
produced some of the highest Total Corners results in the Premier
League:

  • There were 20 corners in the game at Villa Park last season,
and also 20 corners in the reverse fixture at Upton Park

  • The season before, there were 13 corners in the game at West
Ham and a massive 23 corners in the game at Aston Villa

When you consider the Premier League average is 11.2 Total Corners
per game, you can see just how high those totals are. And that's no
fluke. Last season bets on Over 10.5 Corners paid out in 80% of
Aston Villa's Premier League games, and in 63% of West Ham away
games.

  • For this weekend's game the bookies make Over 10.5 Corners
odds-on at just 2/5 (1.40) with Extrabet. Elsewhere, Over 11 Corners
is 8/13 (1.62) with Skybet and Bet365, and Over 12 Corners is 11/10
    (2.10) with William Hill

To keep track of all the live stats and scores this weekend, go to
our Live Scoreboard at www.FootballBettingData.co.uk - the
site is updated live in-play with Goals, Corners and Booking Points
stats.

I'll write to you again on Monday with the stats and results from
the opening games and a look ahead at the Man Utd v Newcastle game.

Best wishes,

Matt Nesbitt
