Man City v Liverpool tonight - and top trends from the weekend

Monday 23rd August 2010

In Football Betting Data today:

  • Goals goals goals in the Premier League!
  • Top trends update - bets that paid out again at the weekend...
  • What the stats say for Man City v Liverpool tonight...

There were stacks of goals scored at the weekend - with Chelsea,
Arsenal and Newcastle all winning 6-0 and Fulham drawing 2-2 with
Man Utd. So far 13 of the 19 games played in the Premier League this
season have paid out on Over 2.5 Goals bets. And Chelsea have scored
more than anyone.

Here are the weekend's results - the top trends that paid out with
the bookies once again - and the standout stats for tonight's game
between Man City and Liverpool...

Wigan 0 Chelsea 6

Chelsea are the only team in the Premier League with a 100% record
so far this season, winning both their games. And they've been
scoring for fun - this was their second 6-0 win in a row - following on
from an 8-0 win on the last day of last season.

  • Bets on Over 2.5 Goals paid out in 63% of Chelsea away games
last season and that trend continued on Saturday - paying out at a
    best price 4/6

  • In Friday's email I also highlighted the fact that 7 of
Chelsea's away wins last season were by more than 1 goal. The -1
    Match Handicap
paid out again v Wigan at odds of 8/11

Cashing-in on Chelsea's goals...

On the first weekend of the season I flagged up Victor Chandler's
'August Specials' bets, where Chelsea to score Over 8 Goals in their first 3 Premier League games was available at odds of 5/2.

  • That bet is a winner already - the Blues have scored 12 goals in just 2 games, with Stoke at home still to come.

And in last week's email I looked at Boylesports' market for the
Highest Scoring Premier League Game of the weekend...

Man City v Liverpool is still to play this evening (see below for
the standout stats), but unless there are 7 or more goals in that
one, anyone backing the Wigan v Chelsea game at 9/2 will be looking at a 'dead heat' payout along with the Newcastle v Aston Villa and Arsenal v Blackpool games which also ended 6-0 (a three-way tie would mean a third of your stake wins at odds of 9/2).

I'll be looking at more of the bookies' Premier League 'specials'
throughout the season.

The Wigan v Chelsea game was also notable for the lowest Total
Corners
result I have ever seen...

There were NO corners at all in the game. In over 5 years of
studying the top English and European leagues, I've never seen a '0-
0'
corners result before!

One team that can be relied upon for games with plenty of corner
kicks are Aston Villa...

Newcastle 6 Aston Villa 0

Total Corners = 12.

Aston Villa have started this season right where they left off in
2009/10, with both their games going Over 10.5 and Over 11.5 Corners
so far.

  • Last season bets on Over 10.5 Corners paid out in a high 84%
of Villa away games. Bets on Over 10.5 paid out at 1/3 with Extrabet
at the weekend, and Over 11.5 Corners was 8/15 with Stan James

Top trends update...

Here's a summary of the other 'top trends' that I looked at in
Friday's Football Betting Data email...

Fulham 2 Man Utd 2
Both teams' average First Goal Time was around the 40-minute mark
last season, but Paul Scholes took just 11 minutes to open the
scoring on Sunday afternoon.

Arsenal 6 Blackpool 0
Arsenal won the Most Corners in a high 89% of home games last
season, and that trend continued at the weekend. Arsenal won 6
corners more than Blackpool, landing the -5 Corner Handicap bets
available with the bookies.

Birmingham 2 Blackburn 1
Both teams' average First Goal Time was over 40 minutes last season,
and after a goalless first half on Saturday, Blackburn's Steven
N'Zonzi scored the first goal in the 54th minute - landing bets on
the bookies' 'After 27th Minute' option.

West Brom 1 Sunderland 0
Sunderland received the Most Booking Points in 84% of away games in
2009/10, but West Brom players were shown the most bookings in this
one, with 3 yellow cards (30 Booking Points) and 1 (10 pts) for
Sunderland. There was an 'early goal' (Before 28th Minute) in 74% of
Sunderland away games last season, but the only goal of this game
came in the 81st minute for West Brom.

West Ham 1 Bolton 3
Bolton received the First Card in 68% of away games last season and
the Most Booking Points in 74%. Both those trends continued on
Saturday - Bolton received the First Card and picked up 40 Booking
Points compared to 20 for West Ham.

Now for a look at the standout stats tonight's live TV game...

Manchester City v Liverpool

Mon 23rd Aug, 8pm - Live on Sky Sports 1
Ref: P.Dowd

Match odds:

Man City 8/5            Draw 9/4          Liverpool 21/10

Both teams drew their opening games last weekend. Man City held
Tottenham to a 0-0 draw at White Hart Lane, and Liverpool drew 1-1
at home with Arsenal.

Last season Man City and Liverpool drew 0-0 at the City of
Manchester Stadium and 2-2 at Anfield. For tonight's game the
bookies make the Draw 9/4 (3.25) in the Match Result betting.

Man City's 'top trends' from last season are in the Corners
department...

  • Man City won the Most Corners in 16 out of 19 home games last
    season - 84%

  • Bets on Over 10.5 Corners paid out in 74% of City's home games

There were 14 corners in the Man City v Liverpool game last season
(8-6 to City). There were 13 corners in City's first game of the new
season at Tottenham last week and 20 corners in Liverpool's game
against Arsenal.

  • Man City are 5/6 (1.83) with Bwin to be 'awarded the most
    corners'
in tonight's game. And Bwin also offer 3/4 (1.75) for there
to be 'Over 10.5' corners in the game

Other bookies that offer 'Most Corners' (or 'Corners Match Bet')
markets include Bet365, Blue Square, 888 Sport, William Hill,
Ladbrokes, Boylesports and Betfair.

All the top bookies offer Total Corners bets. And 'Over 10' or 'Over
10.5' options are available for all live TV games with Bwin, Expekt,
Extrabet and Stan James.

Note: It's still early in the season so I won't be sending you any
'recommended bets' until there is some more form in the book. The
advice at the start of the season is always to keep stakes low.
